Vermont Blogger Conference '04

I'm organizing a Vermont Bloggercon for Saturday, October 23rd, at Vermont Technical College in Randolph. Actually, I'm making all the arrangements and hoping it will sort of organize itself. If you're a blogger who lives in Vermont or any of the surrounding areas, you're invited! Bloggers who have already expressed interest include Jessamyn West, Jeff Soyer, Jerome Armstrong, and Todd "ntodd" Pritsky. And me. Thanks to Jeanne Eichs from Vermont Technical College for helping to set this up.

We will meet at the college, in Conant 102. It's a lecture room, and it has wi-fi. The time and agenda are still up for discussion, so please comment to this post with your suggestions.

Time: We have the room from 9-2, but I'm thinking of starting at 10 or 11 to give stragglers from various parts of our rural state enough time to get out there. Jeanne says we can come up with some kind of light lunch. Or it could be a potluck!

Agenda: I'm open to your ideas. I don't really have an agenda, but I'd like to share knowledge about wi-fi hotspots, I'd like to find out about bloggers I've never heard of and what they're doing on and offline, and I'd like to talk about the intersection of blogging and journalism. Please give me some feedback on what you'd like to do once we're all in the same room.

Here's some info about the Piedmont Bloggercon organized by Ed Cone and David Hoggard this summer in NC. This report is from Jay Ovittore.

More info to follow. Check back for updates.

UPDATE: This is a FREE event. No charge, folks!
Comments:
Excellent Cathy. Am planning on being asap, since I should have wheels to use for that particular day.

If a potluck it what gets decided, am not sure what if anything much I can bring, but if I can manage to do so, I'll try to bring something cold and wet to drink (of the non-alcoholic variety of course).

For those not so familiar with where or how to get to Vermont Technical College, they do have a page with directions to the Randolph campus.

In addition, for the more visually-oriented like myself, they do have a good Randolph VTC campus map, as well as a state map, birds eye view and a to and from I-89 map available online, which may prove helpful to some.

Am looking forward to the Vermont Bloggercon '04. Thank you for getting this going Cathy. Great work!

P.S.

Cathy: Will this be free or, will there be any type of fee involved?

Opps.

Within the second sentence of the first paragraph of my first comment post, I had *meant* to write:

Am planning on being *there* asap, since I should have wheels to use for that particular day.

One thing I've noticed is that most bloggers (including myself) each seem to have their own "comfort zone" in what other blogs they read and link to. One topic could be how to get dialogs going between bloggers of different political or social persuasions to open dialogs (or debates) with each other.

Or, topics might include problems common to all bloggers such as how to avoid the line between opinion and liable or slander as well as "fair use" of quotes (or photos) from newspapers without vearing into use without permission. These are both legal issues that bloggers face all the time but don't have the real training to (perhaps) understand as well as a professional journalist such as yourself.

Another idea that comes to me is for bloggers to discuss whether they write for themselves, or if, when they reach a certain point in "popularity" do they find themselves writing to their "audience" instead...

Yet one more: How do bloggers families or friends or their bosses feel about their blogs?

Have read with keen interest about your upcoming 2004 Vermont Bloggercon and am pleased so many bloggers and others who are interested in blogs in general and the bloggers themselves as well.

Speaking of which, I hope you will forgive my shameless plug, however I wanted to call to your attention of the yet little known Central Vermont Blog Addiction Rehab Treatment Center.

It is our hope, as a small rural-based treatment center, that the blogger's and others whom attend the 2004 Vermont Bloggercon may consider discussing the serious disorder(s) that we find ourselves supporting addicted bloggers, who come to us from throughout the world, as they begin and continue their recovery process day in and day out, struggling with their Internet and blog addiction(s).

For more concerning these and related matters, check out the Blogaholics Anonymous blog: behind the scenes of recovery -- ... an unofficial blog by, for, about and in support of recovering blogaholics and blog addicts everywhere, blogged by one seriously, yet recovering, addicted blogger. In fact the Blogaholics Anonymous blog is being blogged by someone whose recovery *must* be going rather well these days, since they have not blogged there for quite some time now, something we at the treatment are very proud of them about; -- though I seriously suspect they will be right back to blogging really soon, especially concerning your upcoming Bloggercon, as they could never resist such temptation on their own of course.

It is our sincere hope that each and everyone of the bloggers and interested others enjoy themselves in Randolph next Saturday. Most importantly, have fun!

For those who may wonder, yes -- if at all possible and unless a major crisis at our treatment demands my time during that particular day, I do plan on being in attendance at the Vermont Bloggercon.

If it works out for me to do so, I am looking forward to meeting each and everyone who makes it there.

In the meantime, blog on and on anon, in healthy moderation of course.

Sincerely,

Ira Asa McIntosh, Founder
Central Vermont Blog Addiction Rehab Treatment Center

P.S.

By the way, please feel free to call me Mac, everyone else does.

My apologies, however as I just spotted that the first paragraph of my previous comment post was unfinished and therefore required editing, I wanted to ammend it as follows:

Have read with keen interest about your upcoming 2004 Vermont Bloggercon and, am pleased so many bloggers as well as others who are interested in blogs in general and the bloggers themselves as well, will be afforded the opportunity to gather in person and meet face to
face.

Thank you,

Mac

If Ntodd is going, then I will probably as well. See you all there.

have decided to not to attend the VT Blogger Conference
tomorrow (Saturday, October 23rd) as I am in need of taking that particular day completely off; as it turns out it appears that I am going to need more than one day (i.e., including today), in fact the entire weekend, to rest up due to conditions related to health and extremely low-energy levels.

Rats! Had I seen this two days earlier, I would totally have been there. Any plans for an encore?

There are several things to be considered when selecting the best gambling website.

While the life-expectancy gap between men and women has decreased, it's no secret that men still need to pay more attention to their bodies. Several things work against men. They tend to smoke and drink more than women. They don't seek medical help as often as women. Some men define themselves by their work, which can add to stress.
There are also health conditions that only affect men, such as prostate cancer and low testosterone. Many of the major health risks that men face – like colon cancer or heart disease - can be prevented and treated with early diagnosis. Screening tests can find diseases early, when they are easier to treat. It's important to have regular checkups and screenings.

Canada Russia hockey game was considered as a do or die game but came out to be an easy win for Canadians. Russian athletes are loosing at large in Vancouver winter Olympics. North Americans are ruling the winter games. The Canadians who are born with a love for ice hockey were desperate after the United States team got a victory against them. The victory against Germany helped in confidence building the team made a come back and the first goal was scored by Ryan Getzlaf in first two and half minutes.
Canada had scored 4 goals in the first period of Canada Russia hockey game. The remaining three were scored in the 2nd period. Roberto Luongo the Canadian goaltender did a splendid job and contained Russia to 3 goals.

The author has written an excellent article. You have made your point and there is not much to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: No truth is universal, everything has its exception. Thanks for the info
