Coming Home

Returned to snowy VT this afternoon. Bought a copy of Jay McInerny's Bright Lights, Big City for $4 at the used bookstore in the Raleigh airport (one of only 3 airport used bookstores in the country, apparently). Finished it while waiting for my luggage at the Burlington airport. Reminded me why I love Vermont. As if I needed a reminder — every time I fly home and see Camel's Hump, and Mt. Mansfield, and recognize Burlington, Rock Point, the Intervale, Winooski, and my neighborhood, I'm overwhelmed by a sense of belonging and connectedness and ownership. This aerial view is so comforting. I can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else.

Update on the blogger conference is forthcoming. I need more time to digest and organize my thoughts. I'm working on my vision for what will work here in VT. As my Vermont librarian Jessamyn West says, Vermont is in "a technology shadow." Vermonters, she says, just don't have that "techno-lust" that seems to have caught on in bigger urban areas.

Much of the talk at this weekend's conference revolved around how the blogging community can influence the media. But how does an alternative weekly newspaper go about supporting a blogging community that doesn't quite see itself as a community yet? I have some ideas, and I'm working on implementing them. As always, I'm actively searching for input. I'll share my ideas soon...
Comments:
I came upon your interesting writing by "next blog" buttoning.
It appears that the regular ol' everyday Media, newspapers, is feeding the blogs, not the other way around.
Most blog links, from what I've seen are to newspaper articles and other blogs.
I am impressed with the intelligence and creativity of Bloggers.

I recently returned to VT from a short trip "down south" and had the same feelings that you did as the plane came in over Burlington and the lake. What a great place!

Are you familiar with the Upper Valley's "UV Scene?" It's more a group blog than a blogging community, but it seems like a tight knit group of net-saavy folks in the White River-Hanover area.

It's official. I will be adding a special block of links to "vermont blogs" on Candleblog. Consider yourself blogrolled.

Hi matey

I'm sure it was this blog I was reading a while back where someone was looking for an SEO tool for driving more traffic and get more hits for their website.

Anyway, I was speaking to a techi guy at work who gets to know all the latest stuff and he uses the free Link Referral Program.

His website on promotion services site web amongst other stuff has seen traffic explode since he started using the Link Referral Program - consequently his affiliate sales commissions and business sales went through the roof PLUS his website increased in google ranking which was an added bonus!!

If anyone else has any good ideas for driving more traffic to blogs/websites then please share with your online business blog buddies. Ta ;-)
